Orality in Theological Education: Addressing 21st-Century Challenges

Our speakers, Larry Caldwell, and Laurence Gatawa, made a compelling case for the use of orality in theological education. Laurence focused on the need to teach oral hermeneutics, while Larry emphasized the need for Bible schools and seminaries to adopt competency-based curricula that focus on transforming lives and serving the church.

Larry W. Caldwell is Chief Academic Officer and Dean, and Professor of Intercultural Studies and Bible Interpretation, at Kairos University, Sioux Falls, SD. He is also Senior Missiologist for Converge Worldwide (formerly Baptist General Conference). He previously taught at Asian Theological Seminary in Manila, Philippines for 20 years as Professor of Missions and Bible Interpretation, as well as a season as Academic Dean.
